Yemen’s Houthi rebels say they launched a missile attack on the USS Eisenhower aircraft carrier in the Red Sea on Friday morning.
The attack was a response to recent US- and UK-led bombing operations in Yemen that killed 16 people and wounded 41 others, including civilians, Houthi military spokesman Yahya Saree said.
He warned that the rebels would “meet escalation with escalation” and said ballistic and winged missiles had been used in the attack. He said that “the blows were accurate and direct.”
Last night’s coalition strikes targeted Hodeidah province, Salif port, a radio building in Al-Hawk district, Ghalifa camp and two houses, Saree said.
The US and British militaries said they launched strikes against Houthi targets in Yemen on Thursday to deter the militant group from continuing to disrupt shipping in the Red Sea.
US Central Command said US and British forces had struck 13 targets in Houthi-controlled areas of Yemen.
Houthi military spokesman Yahya Saree said the attack was a response to recent bombing operations led by the United States and the United Kingdom.

In Tehran, Houthi ally Iran condemned the attacks as “violations of Yemen’s sovereignty and territorial integrity…international laws and human rights,” Iranian state media reported.
“The aggressor governments of the United States and Great Britain are responsible for the consequences of these crimes against the Yemeni people,” said Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Nasser Kanaani.
The Houthis, who control Yemen’s capital and most populated areas, have attacked international shipping in the Red Sea since November in solidarity with the Palestinians in the war between Israel and Hamas, prompting retaliatory attacks by the United States and Great Britain since February.
