Two residents of a home are still unaccounted for after a two-story building caught fire.

Emergency services were called to the house on Railway Street in Teralba, south-west of Newcastle, about 4.15am on Thursday to reports of a house on fire.

About 50 firefighters responded to the scene to put out the fire, but were unable to locate two of the residents.

It is unknown if they were in the property at the time.

More to come.
