Disney+ hotster announced that mobile phone users with the Disney+ Hotstar app will receive the Asia cup and Men’s ICC Cricket World Cup tournaments for free on the app.

“Disney+ Hotstar has remained at the forefront of the rapidly evolving OTT industry in India and the various innovations we have introduced to continue improving the viewing experience have enabled us to delight our audience across the region. By making the Asia Cup and ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup available to a wider audience, we believe it will help us grow the overall ecosystem,” said Sajith Sivanandan, Head of Disney+ Hotstar.

Asia Cup 2023 is scheduled for September this year. The Asia Cup has 13 matches. On the other hand, the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup would start on October 5 and there would be 48 matches.

Disney+ Hotstar has created strong viewing momentum for cricket properties, with successful tournaments such as the Asia Cup 2022, ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022 and ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2023. The recently concluded India vs Sri Lanka, India vs New Zealand and India vs Australia tournaments also did well for the platform.

Decline in the subscriber base
Recently, Disney+ Hotstar lost the digital rights to stream IPL 2023 JioCinema. The platform lost approximately 4.6 million subscribers in the second quarter of fiscal 2022. According to the company’s earnings report, Disney+ Hotstar experienced a drop in paid subscribers in the first and second quarters of 2023. the number of subscribers fell by 3.8 million, resulting in a total of 57.5 million subscribers. As of April 1, 2023, during the second quarter, Disney+ Hotstar reported a further decline to 52.9 million paid subscribers, down from 4.4 million subscribers.
