A recycling plant has been closed until further notice following the tragic death of a young worker at the site.
Emergency services were called to the Cleanaway Lucas Heights landfill in Sydney’s south at around 12pm on Tuesday following reports that a man had been injured.
The 31-year-old man died at the scene despite desperate efforts to revive him.
A report will be prepared for the coroner.
“The incident has been referred to SafeWork NSW,” a police statement read.
The Lucas Heights facility on Little Forest Rd is a “drop-off and disposal site,” according to Cleanaway.

“We offer free delivery of pre-sorted loads of paper and cardboard, steel and aluminum cans, scrap metal, limited quantities of crankcase oil and vehicle batteries,” the website states.
It now also says: ‘The Lucas Heights landfill has closed until further notice.’
A Cleanaway spokesperson told Daily Mail Australia that the company would “work closely with the relevant authorities”.
“At this time, our thoughts are with all those who have been affected by this tragic event,” they said.
‘As this incident is currently under investigation, it would not be appropriate to comment further.’

SafeWork NSW has confirmed that an investigation is underway.
“Investigations are ongoing. No further comment is available at this time,” a spokesman said.
