A car was doused in petrol and burst into flames on a busy Melbourne street.
Emergency services were called to Alexandra Street in St Kilda East shortly before 9.30pm on Thursday night.
Dramatic footage showed the exact moment the car exploded into flames with a loud bang.
Photographs of what happened show the car burned.
Nearby residents heard explosions as black smoke filled the air.
“My roommate and I heard a loud bang and thought someone was closing the doors to our apartment building,” one woman told Daily Mail Australia.
‘A few minutes later, we saw the smoke. It was so close we could see the sparks. People across the street saw the flames from their house and ran out into the street.
‘They were worried their house was going to burn down. For a few minutes, there were several pops and pops coming from the fire.
