A family night out ended horribly after a toddler was bitten by a snake.
A boy attending the annual Gold Coast Show in Southport with his family on Saturday felt something crawl up his leg.
The boy told event staff he thought the snake was a stick and tried to pick it up before he was bitten, the Gold Coast Bulletin reported.
He was treated for a suspected snake bite in the event’s medical tent and was taken to Gold Coast University Hospital by ambulance at 7.09pm in a stable condition.
It is not yet clear what type of snake bit the boy, but the Bulletin reported that it was simply described as “short.”
More than 120,000 attendees attended the popular event over the weekend.
The incident comes after Tony Harrison, of Harrison’s Gold Coast and Brisbane Snake Catcher, revealed his business had received 10 snake-related calls on Friday as the weather warmed up.

The boy was attending the Gold Coast Show with his family on Saturday night.
He told the Courier Mail it is a “crazy season” as mating season has begun, with snakes having been found inside a Southport school, in the bedroom of a house and on the door handle of a Broadbeach shop.
“This starts now and ends in October. That’s the crazy season,” he said.
‘We started with carpet pythons and green tree snakes, then eastern browns and all the others. Then when the eastern browns are done, they’re the last to go.
‘Eastern brown gulls mate for much longer for some reason.’
