A woman fell one floor to her death after stepping into an elevator shaft when the doors opened and the elevator was not there.
Clelia Ditano, 25, died in the early hours of this morning in her apartment building in Fasano, in the province of Brindisi, southern Italy.
He reportedly pressed the elevator button and walked through the doors when they opened, not realizing the elevator was not there.
He fell into the void and landed on the roof of the elevator, which had stopped on the first floor, local media reported.
He died on impact, according to firefighters who recovered his body.

Clelia had posted a photo wearing an off-white top and matching skirt on her Instagram story just hours before she died.
Clelia’s father tragically found her body this morning after calling her phone, which he heard ringing in the elevator.
The man alerted emergency services, who arrived at the scene around 8 a.m., according to local media.

She also shared an image of herself in a black dress, chillingly writing on the day she died: “For what is to come.”
The 25-year-old, who worked as a cleaner at several bed and breakfasts in the area, loved dancing and going out, according to her friends.
A friend called Ilenia heartbreakingly wrote in a tribute to Clelia: ‘It wasn’t supposed to be like this, you were supposed to make all your dreams come true, the family you wanted to create, find true love…’

Ilenia said that Clelia’s death will leave a huge void in her life since the young woman was “a fundamental part” of her life.
Another friend asked: “How can someone die like this?” A third added: “No one deserves to die like this.”
‘It wasn’t supposed to be like this… Beautiful and kind, you had a life ahead of you to live,’ Clelia’s friend Betty commented on the last photo on Clelia’s Instagram account.
Police officers and firefighters are working together to find out why the doors opened despite there being no elevator and why the elevator got stuck a few floors below.
“We can assume a malfunction in the locking system, because the door should only open when the cabin is on the ground,” an investigator told local media.
