A two-year-old boy has died after being hit by a car inside a school tent.

The horrific incident occurred at Durack State School, on Inala Avenue, in Brisbane’s southwest, about 3.30pm on Thursday.

Emergency services were called to the scene and despite the best efforts of paramedics, they were unable to save him.

Queensland Police said in a statement that they are at the scene and conducting investigations into the incident.

“An investigation has been launched and a woman is assisting police with their inquiries,” police said in a statement.

The tragedy occurred at Durack State School on Inala Avenue in Brisbane’s southwestern suburbs about 3:30 p.m.

The Forensic Accident Unit is located on site. Anyone with information about the incident has been urged to contact police.

Images from the scene showed several police vehicles and an ambulance parked inside the school grounds.

Durack State School opened in 1960 as Serviceton State School before being renamed in 2001.

The school is known for its multiculturalism among students, who speak many languages.
