Shocking images captured the aftermath of a shooting at a Nebraska high school on Tuesday that left one student critically injured from a gunshot wound to the stomach.

Students and teachers screamed for help as they huddled around the shot teenager, who authorities said was 15 years old but did not release his name.

The shooting at Northwest High School in Omaha prompted an urgent search that lasted about an hour until another student, who has not been identified, was taken into custody.

Police said the shooting was an isolated incident between two students and marked the third mass shooting at a U.S. school in a week.

Authorities assured residents there was no longer a “threat to the community” and said they were treating the shooting as an isolated incident between two students.

Nebraska High School was placed on lockdown along with nearby Marian High School and Roncalli Catholic High School as police responded to the scene.

The gunman reportedly fled through a side door but was arrested a few blocks from campus about an hour after an active shooter alert was sounded.

After announcing the suspect was in custody, the Omaha Police Department said there was no longer a “threat to the community” and a reunification point for parents was set up at the school’s football stadium.

Congressman Don Bacon addressed X after the arrest, saying he was “saddened” by the shooting and praying “for the student’s recovery.”

“Thank you to the first responders who acted quickly to address the needs of the victim and apprehend the suspect,” Bacon said.

‘At this point, it is premature to say what action should be taken, as we do not know how the suspect obtained the weapon, where the incident occurred, etc.’

The incident marks the third school shooting across the United States in less than a week, including a massacre at Apalachee High School in Georgia, when 14-year-old student Colt Gray allegedly opened fire on 13 people, killing four.
