A train passenger was punched in the face following a petty argument in a brazen attack in broad daylight in front of shocked travelers.

Horrifying video shows the attacker hovering over his victim as he tried to defend himself on the Long Island Rail Road in Queens on Monday.

A third passenger rushed into the melee, diving at the attacker and punching him until he was thrown across the aisle.

He then attempted to grab the 32-year-old, who was armed with a box cutter, and pull him off the victim, but failed to grab him properly.

A third passenger rushed into the melee, diving at the attacker and punching him until he was thrown across the aisle.

At some point during the melee, the third man’s shoe fell off. So he picked it up and belted the attacker several times.

Eventually, he managed to grab the man and pull him away from the victim, holding him at arm’s length as he tried to knock some sense into him.

The 27-year-old victim is only seen in the video when the man has been pulled off of him and he is waving his arms over the seats.

Police said the older man hit the victim in the face with the box cutter and was arrested at the scene.

A woman who filmed the attack around 3:45 p.m. said the small argument started earlier at the Jamaica Center on Far Rockway Road.

“The suspect was blocking the door when entering the train and the man whose face was lacerated punched him blocking the entrance,” she said.

The third man jumped on the attacker, punching him in an attempt to break up the fight until he was able to grab him and pull him away from the victim, holding him at arm’s length as he he was trying to make sense of it.

The younger man sat down, but the attacker then approached and began a verbal argument which escalated into violence.

“There was a boy who saw everything in that car and he was crying and afraid to get back on the train when the new one arrived at the station,” the woman said.

“The driver was comforting him and his mother. It was sad.

The train was stopped for 50 minutes while police investigated and the victim was taken to Jamaica Hospital.

“Weapons have no place on trains, and we are grateful for the quick response of NYPD officers who kept passengers safe and arrested the attacker,” the MTA said.
