A Brazilian Navy sailor shot and killed his ex-wife and then killed himself in an apparent murder-suicide, police said.
Surveillance camera footage showed Jailton Silva, 35, confronting Elaine Silva, 25, at her former home on Monday afternoon, a day after her boyfriend visited her.
The horrifying footage shows Jailton chasing the mother-of-one around the house with a gun before shooting her dead. He later turned the gun on himself.
Police tragically revealed that Elaine’s death could have been prevented as Jailton had a history of abuse towards her for which he had a criminal record.
However, his controlling behavior continued and the jealous ex-husband monitored his ex-partner through cameras installed in their home.
It was through this chilling surveillance activity that he discovered that Elaine had moved on with another man, which infuriated him.
In footage recorded by the home video system, Jailton appeared to corner Elaine in the kitchen before her mother interceded and broke up the argument.
He then walked towards the living, gestured to Elaine, and took out a gun from his waist.

A hallway security camera showed Elaine standing at the top of the stairs and Jailton pulled out his gun, pointed it at her and followed her to the street.
On a third surveillance camera, Elaine’s mother was seen leaving the building as her daughter entered a property across the street.
Jailton followed her inside and shot her three times before shooting himself in the head.
The couple, parents of one son, were married for six years and separated six months ago.
But Jailton installed security cameras in the living room and continued to monitor Elaine, police said.
The head of the Civil Police of Rio de Janeiro, Renato Martins, revealed that Jailton did not accept that he was no longer with Elaine.
“It is important to clarify that the perpetrator, Jailton, already had a criminal record for threatening his ex-wife,” Martins said.
“So, he already has a history of violence against women.”
Elaine had attended law school and worked as a driver for a ride-sharing app.

The Navy said in a statement that it was aware of the incident and was providing assistance to the families.
