Horrific footage posted on social media shows the moments after police shot and killed two dogs on the side of an Idaho highway after escaping from their owner’s yard.
The video was shared by Stephanie Carsner on Facebook and features the incident that happened Monday on Interstate 84 in Heyburn.
The shocking video shows the moment one of the dogs collapses on the side of the road after being shot by a cop.
The dogs named Luna and Boomer had completely stopped traffic in an area of the freeway where drivers could arrive at 80 miles per hour.
Officers attempted to round up the dogs with whistles and shouts to no avail.
The owner of the ‘fur babies’ has since released a statement thanking those who tried to save the dogs before they were shot and killed.

In an explanation, police said the dogs created a dangerous situation for motorists who were then stuck at a stop.
Officers were initially called to the scene for a traffic jam and said it was when they arrived that they discovered the two large dogs on the loose.
Other drivers have already put their own safety at risk to try to catch the dogs, but without success.
Attempts by the police to reign over the dogs have also failed.
“Recognizing that traffic was heavy for Memorial Day, and fearing for the motoring public with great potential for rear-end collisions at 80 mph, officers made the decision to shoot the dogs at 6:03 p.m.,” the official said. release continued, stating that no dog had a tag.
“Each dog was shot once and removed from the roadway,” the press release read.
Carsner claimed she was there to round up the dogs and described the dogs as “non-aggressive” in Facebook posts after the shooting.
She said she almost captured the dogs when officers approached her to ask if the dogs were hers.
“(He) told me I should be home, then told me he was going to shoot them,” Carsner wrote in a Facebook post.
“I yelled no he’s not because I’m there as a lifeguard and myself and DOZENS of others almost had the dogs in hand,” Carsner continued.

In an explanation, police said the dogs created a dangerous situation for motorists who were then stuck at a stop.
In a Facebook post, the dog’s owner, Ashley Price, shed some light on the situation.
Price said his family was out of town and Luna and Boomer were being cared for by relatives when the incident happened.
She thanked those who tried to round up the dogs before they were shot.
“We are also VERY relieved that no more accidents happened because they were on the road,” Price wrote.
Price said her “fur babies” were loved and well cared for, but the dogs somehow got away around 5:30 p.m. and ended up on the highway shortly after.
The family’s house is fenced off, she says, so they’re still trying to figure out how they got out and managed to get here.
“These are the only facts we have at this time and we have been in communication with the Chief of Police and will be going tomorrow to view their dash and body cam footage,” Price wrote on Tuesday.
She asked for respect and kindness as they mourned the death of their ‘fur babies’.
Carsner and others now plan to raise their concerns at an upcoming city council meeting after saying Mayor Dick Gilbraith ignored their pleas.
In their press release, police referenced Carsner’s post and video, saying they highlighted the dangerous issue of stopping on a freeway.
Officials also said the matter is still under investigation and they understand the video and subject matter is not easy to address.
“These circumstances are not easy for first responders or the public,” they said.
The woman who shared the video, however, said she questioned the reports released by the police and called for the officers to be fired, saying she wanted “justice for these fur babies”.
