Horrifying moment ferry passenger loses a leg after jumping off in bid to be first off but getting crushed between the boat and the shore

Video footage shows the horrific moment a ferry passenger who jumped ashore as his boat arrived at the dock suffered his leg crushed between the ramp and the ground.

The horror unfolded on the banks of the Tapajós River, one of the main tributaries of the Amazon, in Miritituba, Brazil, on Saturday morning.

Local media identified the victim as Luiz Henrique da Silva Pantoja, 27, and his left leg reportedly had to be amputated after being crushed.

The shocking accident was captured on CCTV footage, showing how the man jumped the gate separating the cars from the ramp as the ship approached the port.

He goes down the ramp in an attempt to be the first off the ship, but before he can jump ashore, he loses his balance and suddenly slides into the space between the ferry and the shore.

Local media identified the victim as Luiz Henrique da Silva Pantoja, 27 years old.

Another clip shows the man crying in agony on the dock while traumatized passengers wail at the stomach-churning sight.

Footage shows the man doubled over in pain and clutching his leg, while other footage shows him on a small boat and shows how his left leg was covered in blood.

As he falls through the narrow space, he can be seen holding on to the edge of the dock with his hands.

But before he can drag the rest of his body to the dock, the ship continues to move toward the shore, its ramp pinning his legs against the wall.

Gruesome images of the aftermath show one of his limbs left mangled and bloodied, while the other is left with a deep gash.

Footage shows the man, who was wearing a red T-shirt and white shorts, doubled over in pain and clutching his leg.

Another clip shows the man crying in agony on the dock while traumatized passengers wail at the stomach-churning sight.

Men who appear to be workers open the ferry door and run towards the man, who is already surrounded by people who were on the ground when the incident occurred.

The horrific moment was captured on CCTV and shows how the man jumped the gate separating the cars from the ramp as the ship approached the port.

As he falls into the narrow space, he can be seen grabbing the edge of the dock with his hands in an attempt to pull himself out.

The crush victim was reportedly taken by speedboat to nearby Itaituba, where waiting emergency doctors gave him first aid and took him to a local hospital.

Footage taken of the man in a small boat shows how his left leg was covered in blood as he was rushed for treatment. It is believed that he was amputated.

The shipping company that owns the ferry reportedly issued a statement saying its employees rushed to the passenger’s aid and called emergency services.

He added that he regrets what happened to the passenger and sent his best wishes for his recovery.

Local authorities are said to be investigating the accident.
