A man has been arrested after crashing his car into a house before breaking into his own home and chasing his landlord and housemate with a pickaxe.

Security cameras show a Kia sedan being driven at high speed on an otherwise quiet suburban street in Lake Forest, Calif., before noon Monday.

A large crash can be heard, as the suspect, whom police have yet to name, drives the vehicle forward onto the porch of a house.

Footage from the chaotic scene shows the car up on a garden wall with its hood smashed against the property’s porch, debris strewn across the front yard.

The man – who has blood on his face – then runs to the house he was renting a room in a nearby block and fights his way through the front door.

The motive for the man’s savage attack is still unclear.

Once inside the property, the man chased its owner, Eric Li, into the backyard where he acquired a pickaxe which he then brandished at Mr. Li.

‘He is afraid. He needs to get into the house as soon as possible, but he entered the wrong password, Li says KTLA.

‘You can’t open the door. He tried to use his body to break in.

“He chased me again. So I crossed the street and asked the [neighbor] for help,” Li explained.

One of the man’s other roommates, who did not wish to be named, told KTLA the suspect then chased a gardener into a neighbor’s yard before returning home and attempting to enter the house. their room with the axe.

Video footage shows the man hacking into the housemate’s door, as he is heard screaming inside.

“He kept hitting harder and harder. I noticed he was starting to get tired so I tried to look for a good time when he might want to take a little break from swinging the ax for a second and when he did I opened the door and nice to have him disarmed,” the roommate said.

Deputies quickly arrived on the scene, arrested the man and no injuries were recorded.

Orange County Sheriff’s Department deputies said they used non-lethal force to restrain and detain the suspect, who they believe was under the influence.

In a statement, the Lake Forest Police Department said: ‘On Monday, May 22 at 11:54 a.m. Lake Forest deputies were dispatched to the 2200 block of Robins Street regarding a vehicle accident at a home.

“The driver got out of the vehicle, got a pickaxe and threatened two people.

“The driver was arrested and taken into custody.

“There were no injuries among the two victims or the occupants of the house.”
