Another 19 dead kangaroos with similar injuries were found near Hotham.

In Gobarup, authorised officers found kangaroo bodies scattered across 190 hectares of land after they were alerted on June 22 to the mass deaths by a local wildlife refuge which had found dozens of the marsupials dead in private paddocks.

The keeper who found the animals had to euthanize three live kangaroos due to their severe injuries.

Two cubs were rescued and are being cared for by the local shelter.

Officers have spoken to a landowner who is not a person of interest in the alleged crime.

On June 23, about 170 miles west of the scene, near Hotham, about 19 eastern grey kangaroo carcasses were also found.
