The man suffered multiple stab wounds inside his home on Davidson Street in Bellfield, in Melbourne’s northeast, about 11.30am on Wednesday.

A friend of the victim reportedly found his lifeless body when he went to check on him after he didn’t show up for work.

He was remanded in custody and scheduled to appear in the Melbourne Magistrates Court on Thursday.

Police say the victim and the 54-year-old man did not know each other.

The victim is a young pharmacist who had bought his house earlier this year. nine news reported.

Neighbors said they heard a woman screaming inside the home for about 10 minutes late Tuesday night and called police.

Police arrived at the scene and returned Wednesday morning when the body was found.
