Hudson Pacific Properties and Blackstone, the partner behind the project, said they wanted to make Broxbourne – 17 miles north of central London – “one of the largest world-class film and television studio campuses.”
The investment comes at a time when the popularity of video streaming services has boosted demand for new content.
That has led to fierce competition for studio space, leading to a series of expansions and new developments, such as Sky’s new complex in Elstree, as well as deals from Netflix and Disney to sign leases with Shepperton and Pinewood Studios.
Britain’s creative industries are seen as some of the best in the world, with the film industry alone contributing an estimated £4.6 billion to GDP and supporting more than 117,000 jobs.
