Soft, plump cheeks. Fronts without wrinkles.
These are the features we’ve become accustomed to among Botox- and filler-obsessed celebrities.
But a new look is emerging in Hollywood: sunken eyes, gaunt cheeks and sagging skin.
Experts say it’s due to the rise in popularity of weight-loss medications. The side effect has been called “Ozempic face.”
Famous lothario Scott Disick scared fans last month with his dramatic new look, but other celebrities seem to be suffering from the same problem.
Scott Disick shocked the public when he appeared looking emaciated and malnourished, leading some to question whether he was abusing the weight loss drug Ozempic.
Jessica Simpson (pictured in 2020, left and 2023) also had an Ozempic face, surgeons said, because she had more sunken cheeks than before.
Fans have shared their concerns over whether Sharon (pictured in 2020) is ‘sick’ following her third weight loss after taking the drug Ozempic, which is used to treat diabetes.
Dr Smita Ramanadham, a New Jersey plastic surgeon, told DailyMail.com: ‘The Ozempic face has essentially the same features we see when patients lose weight quickly or regularly.
‘We see a loss of volume in the face, and when we lose fat in the face we see signs such as more sunken cheeks, more sagging skin and a general hollowing out of the features.
“Sometimes it can have the effect of making a person look older, because the fat in our cheeks is what gives us a more youthful appearance.”
Dr. Sue Decotiis, a weight loss expert who has prescribed Ozempic to thousands of patients, added that weight loss appears more dramatic in those with longer faces because of the way the skin stretches.
More than nine million prescriptions for Ozempic were issued in the last three months of 2022, as the drug sweeps the United States.
John Goodman, 71, is an example of the ‘Ozempic face’, or how the face changes after rapid weight loss, experts said because of the deflated look of his cheeks and sunken eyes. They also pointed out more wrinkles on his face.
Robbie Williams revealed he lost 25 pounds with Ozempic (he left in 2013 and left last year). Surgeons said the more pronounced lines on his face, as well as the hollowing of his cheeks, were signs of the Ozempic face. One expert said he now looked more like an “old man”
The surgeons, who also included Dr. Nicholas Jones, a Georgia plastic surgeon, were shown photographs of fifteen celebrities who had recent weight-loss transformations, and said that more than half (mostly men ) had Ozempic faces.
It was harder to tell with women, they said, because they have traditionally been more likely to use fillers and cover imperfections with makeup.
At the top of the list was John Goodman, who experts said had drastically less facial volume and, as a result, looser skin that had formed wrinkles.
Dr Ramanadham said: “It hasn’t been in the news about Ozempic, so I don’t know if that’s it…
“But even with just losing weight, you see more lines, more wrinkles, and more deflation in your face as you lose weight compared to when you were heavier and your face was fuller.”
“These changes are very typical of general weight loss, regardless of whether weight loss medications were used.”
John, 71, has lost 200 pounds in more than a decade, which is due to eating smaller portions, walking his dogs daily and, at one point, eliminating sugar and alcohol from his diet.
He has not said he used Ozempic, although photos emerged this month of him at a New York City airport in which he appears particularly emaciated.
Scott Disick, who is rumored to be in Ozempic, was also on the list, with doctors pointing out sunken areas under his eyes.
But surgeons said it’s unusual for weight-loss drugs to cause such a dramatic change in your appearance, suggesting other factors may be at play, even if you were using the drugs aggressively.
They also ranked Robbie Williams among celebrities with an Ozempic face, with Dr. Ramanadham said: ‘You can see a hollow under the eyes and cheeks and more wrinkles appear due to loss of volume. With Robbie, you can see direct weight loss results.’
Jesse Plemons appears in the photo above in 2022 and again in 2024. In both images, he is attending the Oscars. The star has attributed her weight loss to intermittent fasting
Liam Payne pictured above in 2015 and 2023, plastic surgeons said the chiseled features of his face suggested he had had buccal fat or cheek fat pad removed, rather than having an Ozempic face.
Dr Decotiis added: ‘He seems like a totally different person! He has a longer face, which means the weight loss definitely makes him look very haggard.”
The ‘Angels’ star, 50, revealed her 25-pound weight loss last year, saying it was due to ‘something like Ozempic’ and calling the weight loss a ‘Christmas miracle.’
Among women, both doctors said Sharon Osbourne, also 71, was the most dramatic example of Ozempic’s face, after the star revealed she lost 42 pounds on Ozempic and then “couldn’t stop losing weight.”
“Their eyes appear more sunken and their cheeks appear more sunken,” Dr. Ramanadham said. “There is also a significant loss of facial volume and more associated wrinkles.”
Both also pointed out the nasolabial fold, or line running from the side of the nose to the corner of the mouth, which they said had become more pronounced.
Of Jessica, Dr. Jones said, “When you look at the photo above, her face is much fuller and has more volume.
‘But when I look at the after photo, his eyes, his face, are more sunken, his cheeks are not as full. Her face looks a little haggard, actually, as if she’s been starving.
Jessica never said she used a weight-loss medication, but she previously revealed between 2019 and 2020 that she had lost 100 pounds.
Surgeons were also asked to look at Liam Payne, 30, to determine whether his reduced facial features were due to Ozempic.
But they said this was more closely related to buccal fat removal surgery, or when the fat layer is removed from the cheeks. His chiseled features suggested that she had not experienced significant weight loss.
Dr Jones said: “When someone loses a lot of weight, they can end up with a lot of loose skin. But this is not the case for Liam.
