Hollywood star Mark Wahlberg took time out from a round of golf to make an urgent plea to save the Australian course he was playing on.

Wahlberg, looking like a golfer in a well-dressed sweater, trousers, cap and white gloves, called on the New South Wales government not to close the Moore Park golf course in Sydney’s inner east to create a public park.

“I know I’m not a citizen of Australia, but I’m begging you to save Moore Park Golf Club,” Wahlberg said in a video Saturday.

‘It’s been here for over 100 years, it’s given people hundreds and hundreds of years of pleasure and joy.

‘People can simply go out and take a nice, healthy walk, spend quality time with family and friends.

‘Please, I’ve seen so many parks and I haven’t seen so many lovely public golf courses like this that have access for everyone. Please save Moore Park Golf Club.”

There are still 12 days left for citizens to make presentations on the plan to divide the field in two and set aside 45 hectares for other uses.

About 20 of those hectares will become public parks.

“Over the last century, Sydney has changed significantly,” NSW Premier Chris Minns said when announcing the plan.

‘When the golf course was created, the surrounding areas were largely industrial land.

‘As we work to address the housing crisis facing New South Wales through construction, we know that delivering public infrastructure, including parks, is more important than ever.

“There is huge demand from city residents for a variety of community sports facilities in the inner south of the city, and with greater density planned this will only grow.”

Wahlberg arrived in Australia at the end of February and has been spotted in Sydney in recent weeks while reportedly filming a movie in the country.
