The beloved 1985 adventure comedy film was directed by Richard Donner and produced by Steven Spielberg.
And now the cast is set to make an iconic return as production on the sequel could begin next summer, according to The sun.
The second film, which has already been greenlit for production, could hit theaters in 2026.
A source said: ‘There’s been a lot of talk about a Goonies reboot, but it’s finally been given the green light to go ahead.

‘The plan is to start developing ideas for the sequel next summer, with a possible release date of 2026 or 2027.
“The original is so culturally significant that Warner Bros. knows it has to get it absolutely right.”
The production teams acknowledge that the possibilities of where to take the sequel are “endless” and the team is already excited to get started as they want to “bring the magic of the film to a whole new audience.”
The film, written by Chris Columbus, has become a classic of 1980s cinema, known for its mix of action, humor and heart.
The film follows a group of children from the Goon Docks neighborhood in Astoria, Oregon, who discover an ancient treasure map in the attic of one of their homes.
This map takes them on an exciting quest to find the long-lost treasure of One-Eyed Willy, a legendary 17th-century pirate.
Along the way, they will have to outwit a family of criminals, the Fratellis, who are also after the treasure.
Not only will the sequels be an iconic throwback for decades of fans, but they will also be a huge throwback for the cast, as many of the original members are said to be taking part.

Mikey Walsh, played by Sean Astin, was the optimistic leader of the Goonies and was determined to save his house from foreclosure by finding the treasure.
Brand Walsh, played by Josh Brolin, was Mikey’s older brother, who was reluctantly dragged into the adventure.
Chunk, played by Jeff Cohen, was the group’s clumsy but lovable friend, known for his “Truffle Shuffle” dance.
Mouth, played by Corey Feldman, was a witty member of the group with a knack for getting into trouble.
Data, portrayed by Ke Huy Quan, was the gadget enthusiast who used his inventions to help the group escape dangerous situations.
And the iconic Sloth, painted by John Matuszak, was the gentle giant, misunderstood and disfigured son of the Fratelli family, who becomes an ally of the Goonies.
Former NFL star John died in 1989 at the age of 38, forever etched in Hollywood history with his legendary line, “Hey, guys!”
