Holly Hagan has opened up about her devastating hearing loss and revealed how her relationship with husband Jacob Blyth helped her discover it.

The Geordie Shore star, 32, revealed earlier this year that she had been fitted with hearing aids after years of “struggling” to hear.

Speaking to Heat magazine this month, Holly revealed that when she and Jacob started dating, he came to her house and alerted her about her oven beeping.

Holly insisted she wasn’t beeping, so Jacob recorded the noise, held it to his ear, turned up the volume, and finally heard it.

“And then it all made sense,” the television personality said. “If I was ever in a taxi I always had a hard time hearing the driver speak and if I was in nightclubs I couldn’t hear what people were saying.”

“I hear the birds chirping again,” he said. “I don’t think I’ve heard birds chirping properly since I was 18.”

Of discovering her hearing loss and receiving treatment, Holly added: “I was very excited, but also very happy that hearing aids existed.”

Holly said the headphones have improved their relationship, as she can now hear the refrigerator or oven beeping when she leaves them open, but she still chooses to take them off when Jacob eats to avoid the sound of their creaking.

In July, Holly detailed her shocking health battle with her Instagram fans and shared that she was thrilled to finally hear.

Holly explained that she read lips most of the time and had often felt “embarrassed” in the past when she couldn’t keep up with conversations.

In a video, Holly explained to her fans the process of fitting her hearing aids and emphasized the importance of breaking the stigma of getting them at a younger age.

The mother of one said: ‘I finally got my hearing sorted with Boots Hearingcare after struggling for over 7/8 years.

‘I’m classed as severe for certain sounds, which explains why turning on the TV never helped.

‘I have worked very hard to decipher conversations and always felt embarrassed asking people to repeat themselves.

“I could tune in to family, but I had trouble with new voices in busy environments, and often seemed rude or disinterested.”

Holly revealed Covid made her hearing “10 times worse” because she couldn’t read lips, which she relies on, when people were wearing masks.

She added: ‘Covid made things worse since I realized lip reading and masks made it 10 times harder. The difference with the headphones was overwhelming but incredible. I’m starting at 70% to let my brain adjust.

‘There is a stigma around hearing aids, but if you can’t see properly and wear glasses regardless of age, premature hearing loss can occur for many reasons.

‘They also have great features like built-in Bluetooth, so I don’t need headphones anymore.

‘I would say to anyone who is struggling with their hearing to go to Boots Hearingcare and get it checked; Honestly, it’s worth it; The only thing I regret is not having done it sooner.

‘If you’re over 50, you can get a free hearing test at Boots Hearingcare. If you are under 50, your GP should refer you to Boots Hearingcare for a free hearing test.
