H&M has been praised online for offering free 24-hour suit rentals to help people with job interviews.

The high street retailer, which is headquartered in Stockholm, Sweden, has launched the new initiative in the UK and will soon be running it in America as well.

Customers can book a single-breasted navy jacket with matching pants, white shirt, blue tie and red handkerchief for free and reserve the items online before being delivered to the door in a garment bag.

H&M hopes that the ONE / SECOND / SUIT campaign will help open more doors and build confidence in an interview by ensuring that everyone who attends one can ‘make a powerful first impression’.

The idea was hailed online, and a social media user wrote, “This is such a nice gesture.”

Another said, ‘Wow, this is great,’ while a third said, ‘This is great! It should have taken a long time, but something like that should always be. ‘

A fourth wrote: ‘This is a fantastic service! Thank you H&M and all other organizations or service providers who help! ‘

After wearing the suits, shoppers must return the suit to a store, where H&M will take care of washing and steaming. All delivery costs are free.

Any late returns will be billed a fee of £ 50 which will be donated to charity.

As with any suit rental, customers will have to pay for any major damage, with the full cost of the ensemble being £ 116.94.

The brand cites research that claims it comes second only for potential employers to evaluate a candidate based on first impressions.

The initiative says it addresses this bias by “ensuring that the potential inside isn’t overlooked because of what’s on the outside.”

Sara Spännar, Head of Marketing & Communications at H&M, said: “Job interviews can be a nerve-wracking experience, but we believe that nothing should stop you, especially what you wear.

The ONE / SECOND / Suit is ready to wear confidently. A signal to the world and a reminder to yourself that you have what it takes. ‘

Launched in the UK on April 15th and in the US from May 13th, the campaign will run during a trial period to gauge customer demand.
