A red brick building that served as a Pennsylvania bank more than a century ago has been transformed into a stunning luxury mansion

A red-brick building that served as a bank in Pennsylvania more than a century ago has been transformed into a beautiful luxury mansion and has been listed for a staggering sum.

The three-story, 100,000-square-foot building was previously the Tacony Saving Fund Safe Deposit & Title Company of Philadelphia when it was built in 1893.

It originally contained a bank on the first floor, a communal library on the second, and a lodge room on the third. Realtor.com reported.

But the huge business-turned-home is now on the market for $1.1 million after being converted into a home.

“It’s a really cool house,” Kristin McFeely, the listing agent, told the outlet. “The scale of it is so impressive.”

The 131-year-old building, designed by architect John Ords, was converted into a three-bedroom, three-bathroom home after the current owner purchased the property for $412,000 in 2016.

Despite the massive makeover and modern adaptations, traces of the house’s former life still remain.

The ad read: “Presenting the current building, now one of Philadelphia’s finest examples of adaptive reuse.

‘Offering the most discerning buyer a glorious fusion of old and new, industrial and cozy, vintage and modern.’

The spacious brick building features high and vaulted tongue-and-groove ceilings, steel beams, hardwood floors, columns and an abundance of natural light.

A nameplate above the door, a safe and a goods lift also remain in the home, adding a sense of character.

“The sellers have managed to modernize the interior but retain the character of its history,” McFeely added.

The towering red masterpiece was created with architectural details on the ground floor, defined by open and cozy spaces and a music room where a piano sits against a backdrop of colorful art and plants.

The new loft-like living space is located next to the fully functional, vintage-looking kitchen, which features a black floor, open shelving and a brick fireplace. There is also a door that gives access to the side garden.

On the first floor there is a bedroom with gold-tone ceiling, an office and a full bathroom.

The house has three bedrooms. One emerges into the gigantic open space on the second floor, which is lined with hardwood floors and large, crescent-shaped arched windows.

Jack Costello Boxing Club – a nonprofit organization that improves the health, self-esteem and character of Philadelphia youth through boxing training – once called the Spacious Room home.

But the room, flooded with natural light, now serves as a blank slate where buyers can do whatever they want.

A guest suite with a full kitchen and half bathroom completes the second floor.

Meanwhile, a full-service recording studio is located on the third floor.

“A state-of-the-art control room and monitoring station, a soundproof isolation booth and a spectacular living room with exposed ductwork and vaulted ceilings provide the wow factor,” the listing says.

The property is also located along Corridor 95, which provides easy access for musicians from New York and Boston, McFeely added.

As it is a registered and prominent landmark in the area, there are some restrictions on what the property can be used for.

For example, it is located on the Disston estate, where the sale or production of alcohol is prohibited.

Although you can open a cafe for your own beer on the first floor, it is not possible to get a liquor license.

The first floor can also be used as commercial space, while the upper floors serve as apartments that can be rented out.

Although the second floor was once rented to a boxing and gymnastics studio, the floor can serve as a main residence that allows for a live-in workspace.

“That’s the ideal use because it’s such a large space,” McFeely added. ‘But there are many different applications – and a lot of potential.’
