Hip-Hop Hamsters And Classic Cats: How Pets Have Different Tastes In Music
Pets are simple creatures: a belly rub, treat, or squeaky toy is enough to make their day, or so we think.
Our furry friends may be a bit more sophisticated than they seem, with new evidence showing that animals have their own distinctive taste in music.
Half of our pets get emotional when certain genres of music are played, a survey of UK owners has found. More than a third of dogs love rock, while 30 percent of cats love classical tunes.

And more than 40 percent of hamsters enjoy hip-hop and rap beats. A spokesperson for the record label Rebecca Downes Music, which conducted the survey, said: “It’s official: pets love music just as much as humans and different animals have favorite genres they react to.”
“Some dance, some jump up and down or just get too excited, like humans.”
An astonishing 94 percent of musicians who own pets said their animals enhance well-being and creativity. The survey of 2,000 British adults found that the most rock ‘n’ roll-loving pooches live in Yorkshire and the Humber, followed by Scotland, Wales, the North East and London.
