Suffs, a feminist Broadway musical produced by Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, is ending its run because it had trouble selling enough tickets.
Producers announced Friday night that the play, which deals with the women’s suffrage movement, would close early on Jan. 5.
According to the New York Times, Suffs was projected to raise $19 million, but fell short of that figure.
During the week ending October 6, the musical earned only $679,589, which is not enough to cover the average fees for a Broadway show with a large cast.
It comes despite the hype surrounding the show, which won Tony Awards for its music and book in June.

The show debuted in April, but struggled to fill all of its seats, reaching just 81 percent capacity the week of May 5, according to Fox News.

The show will now close on January 5, before relaunching as a national tour in September 2025, according to the Times.
Clinton’s pre-show appearance at the Music Box Theater was also overshadowed by pro-Palestinian protesters.
Protesters branded the former first lady a “superpredator” and called her husband Bill a “piece of shit” during the ambush.
‘Hillary, has anyone ever told you that you’re the super predator?’ One protester shouted as the former Secretary of State approached her car.
‘Bill Clinton, you are a supporter of genocide. “Fuck you, you piece of sh*t,” the protester added as the former president followed her.

But Hillary seemed unfazed, raising a hand in greeting and smiling at others who had gathered to see her even as the criticism kept coming.
‘You are responsible for genocides, you are responsible for atrocities. “You are literally helping to facilitate the genocide of the Palestinian people,” the protester continued.
He continued screaming even as Hillary got into the vehicle and closed the door.
