Zara McDermott wore an Aircast boot as she posed for an Instagram mirror selfie with her mother Karen and brother Brad on Sunday.

The former Love Island star, 27, cut a relaxed figure in a gray hoodie, black leggings and white trainers as she continued to recover from a stress fracture to her shin.

Zara previously revealed that doctors told her it was likely she would need further surgery to help the healing process from her injury.

However, after taking some time off, Zara updated her fans on Thursday and revealed that there is now small evidence of recovery.

Hoping to recover as naturally as possible, the star wants to avoid surgery and has instead opted to use crutches and a boot to relieve pressure on her foot.

She explained: “This evening I am going to the hospital because during my absence I received news from my doctor regarding my fractured tibia.

“The good news is that there is some small evidence of recovery! Yay!

“However, he said he could see that the bone surrounding the fracture is under a lot of tension/pressure…what does that mean?”

“Surgery remains an option but I have opted for the more natural route which is to try to help it heal on its own… which means that for the next few months I will be on crutches and in boots, for which I am equipped today.

“I’ve had to take some time off from work over the next few weeks because I know I need to prioritize healing my leg, but hopefully this is the beginning of the end now!”

Earlier this month, Zara asked her fans for help as she revealed her stress fracture was not healing and she had been told she might need further surgery.

The star explained she struggled to find information about her condition online as she asked fans if they knew what the impact of the operation would be.

She wrote: “So I have a pretty significant stress fracture in my tibia that is not healing. It stretches almost the entire width of my bone.

“The professor who operated on me in December informed me that I will likely need further surgery in which they will place screws and metal plates above and below the fractured area to merge it.”

“I’m doing as much research online as I can about the surgery, but I really can’t find much online about it, especially on the tibia and also regarding a stress fracture.”

“How long were you standing?” How bad was it? I have lots of questions!’ she added.

The star explained that if she didn’t have surgery and the situation got worse, she would need it in the next three to six months, but revealed she would limit her movements.

Zara told her followers that she was about to have a scan to check for “calcium deposits”, which would indicate healing.

The star also underwent mysterious back surgery in December as she shared a snap from his hospital bed.

Zara, who did not reveal the purpose of the operation, donned festive pink pajamas and had a cannula in her arm as she took the selfie.

Alongside the photo, Zara wrote: “I had a small procedure yesterday! Now ready for a super cool Christmas.’

Zara had her boyfriend Sam Thompson by her side during her recovery, as he shared a photo with her and wrote: “My little goose is recovering after a little surgery.”
