An Australian guy quickly became the center of attention after his tongue got stuck to a large block of ice in a busy shopping area.
The mistake was caught by shoppers at Sydney’s busy Pitt Street Mall as dozens of Australians did their Christmas shopping this week.
“Only in Sydney,” a bystander captioned the video on social media.
“I walked past a frozen block of ice on Pitt St Mall and some idiot got his tongue stuck in the ice.”
The man tried not to panic as he struggled to free himself from the ice.
A member of staff tapped the man on the shoulder to try to get him to move away before running to grab a bottle of water after realizing he was trapped.
He poured the water into the man’s open mouth as the amused shoppers watched.
Comments on the video were mostly unfriendly, with many criticizing the man for the foolish act.
The video shows the young man smiling as he struggles to free himself from the ice.
Security guards came to his aid and one of them poured water into his open mouth (pictured).
“He’s got the Dumb and Dumber haircut and everything,” one said.
“People will do anything for influence,” wrote a second.
Others noted that the display advertised energy drinks and wondered if the faux pas was actually a publicity stunt.
“How can you get your tongue stuck in 30 degree heat?” said one.
‘Yes, it’s not that cold outside, this usually happens in sub-zero climates where the ice is not melting. “The guy could literally use the heat of his hands to melt his tongue if the 30 degree weather doesn’t do it first,” another agreed.
