High profile TV soapie producer quits the industry… and exposes toxic culture behind the glamour

Date:

Read the ruthless open letter from the top Home and Away producer that rocked Australia’s TV industry – as she quits her job and exposes the toxic culture behind the glamour.

Brodie MacPherson, an Australian TV producer, says her former colleagues have turned against her since she quit her TV career six months ago.

The sister of former Neighbors hunk Daniel MacPherson, who once worked on Home and Away and other shows on Channel Seven, took to social media with a lengthy rant about the experience.

Brodie, 30, labeled her former life on TV as “shallow” and said her career had left her traumatised, unhappy and overworked.

Brodie, who entered the entertainment industry as an 18-year-old, also claims she was bullied into quitting her last job and went on to describe a toxic culture full of selfish actors and “outdated” executives.

Brodie described her decision to leave the career she “loved” as liberating, saying it was “hard on her ego but essential for her soul.”

Brodie labeled her former life on TV as “shallow” and said her career had left her traumatized, unhappy and overworked.

She went on to talk about her broken heart because former colleagues no longer wanted to get in touch with her after she quit.

“I ran into ‘industry’ people wondering what show I was working on now,” she said in her Instagram story.

“Or that I had the latest dirty gossip,” she continued.

“And when I answered ‘nothing’ and ‘no’, they looked at me in silence…

“As I leaned deeper into my life away from TV, I lost touch with countless people I once considered my best friends, presumably because I no longer had anything to offer them for selfish gain.”

Brodie went on to condemn the culture she witnessed in the TV production.

She called out unnamed “injustices” on set and “immoral behavior” behind the scenes, saying she was angry with herself for not doing anything about it.

Elsewhere in her intimate exposé, the blonde beauty said she was initially hesitant to talk about the injustice she said she witnessed on TV for fear it could affect future career prospects.

“If that fear was evoked in me,” she explained, “as someone who has held senior production roles and is lucky enough to have an extensive network of contacts, what hope does an intern have?

“As an industry, are we so vulnerable that we can’t hear how important the dark side of Australian TV can be?”

Brodie now says she has chosen a new career, “which has been the richest part of her life.”
