A brave security guard saved a teenage girl from a burning car, but insists he’s no hero.
Wayne Heneker was on his way to work in December 2021 when he saw a car on fire on the Gold Coast M1 motorway, with four teenagers trapped inside.
Bodycam footage shows Mr. Heneker pulling a girl out of the passenger-side window as the flames lick her feet.
The girl’s legs were trapped under the dashboard of the supposedly stolen vehicle, which had hit a concrete barrier and exploded after hitting the back of a truck.
Along with two others, Mr. Heneker undertook the task of getting the teenager out of the vehicle before the flames took over.

“I couldn’t even see her, all I heard was screams for help, all I had to do was reach in and pull her out,” Mr. Heneker told 9News on Thursday.
Mr Heneker said the scene was confrontational, with the teenagers screaming for help.
On Wednesday, Mr. Heneker received a police award for his bravery.
He received a certificate from Assistant Commissioner of Police for his “commitment and prompt actions to save lives.”
However, he has maintained that he is not a hero.
“I’m just someone who enjoys my job and engages in the community with my security services,” he said.
“When you see five kids in a situation like that, you realize they’re just kids, and they’re screaming for help.”
