A Jet2 flight en route to Madeira made an emergency landing in Porto after the pilot fainted and another, who happened to be aboard the aircraft, entered the cabin for landing.

The Boeing 757 was en route from Manchester to Funchal, Madeira, Portugal, when the pilot fell ill.

The 40-year-old pilot is taken to the hospital on arrival.

The alarms went off today at around 10.20 a.m. local time and a runway was closed for half an hour until 11 a.m. so that the emergency landing could take place.

Airport sources told the local media that the airport was now functioning normally.

Medical care providers regret that they have received a request to help a 40-year-old man who & # 39; was taken to the hospital.

Nicholas Banks, a bank employee who was on the plane, said: "They made the announcement that there had been an incident on the cockpit deck and another Jet2 pilot who happened to be on vacation came from the back of the plane.
