Former Chelsea striker Diego Costa will continue the twilight of his career in Brazil after completing his free transfer to Gremio.

The 35-year-old was left without a club after his contract with Brazilian side Botafogo expired after a four-month period.

Costa had previously spent a season with Wolves but failed to make the impact in England that he had during his successful years with Chelsea at the height of his career.

Gremio announced the news on Thursday night with a tweet that read: ‘He’s Spanish, but he has Brazilian blood and titles wherever he’s been!’

‘Diego Costa arrives to reinforce Inmortal’s attack. Multi-time European champion, he has already worn yellow and red and will now defend the Tricolor mantle. Welcome!’

In a brilliant club career, Costa has scored 192 goals for teams such as Atlético Madrid and Chelsea and has also played for the Brazilian and Spanish national teams.

He won two Premier League titles with Chelsea, as well as two Leagues and a Europa League with Atlético.

His time at Wolves was less successful, as he managed one goal in just 25 games, although a good portion of those came from the bench.

Despite being born in Brazil, he did not make his first league appearance there until 2021, when he signed for Atlético Mineiro and won the league and cup double.
