A mother-of-three was left devastated after her two-year-old son was allegedly kidnapped.
Meirivone Rocha Moraes, 37, from Brazil, ‘married’ a life-size rag doll called Marcelo and has three children: ‘newborn’ twin daughters Marcela and Emilia and two-year-old son Marcelinho, all them stuffed toys.
But now tragedy has struck the family after a thief took Marcelinho and demands a ransom of 1 million reais (£130,000).
The tearful mother said her tragedy was compounded when the police “laughed in her face” over the disappearance of her toy son.
She said: ‘Marcelinho was kidnapped and it is causing great sadness to our family.
‘(The thief) asked for a million, but I told him: “I’m not rich. I don’t even have enough to eat, and you want that amount of money from me.”

“Marcelinho was kidnapped and it is causing great sadness in our family,” said Meirivone, from Brazil.

The mother, through tears, said that the kidnappers even sent them an anonymous letter made from magazine clippings.
She said: ‘We are doing what we can. We don’t know why, but when we went to the police, the police laughed in my face. It’s so disrespectful.
‘How can you make jokes about the disappearance of a child who is only two years old?’

Meirivone said: ‘On his first birthday, we had a big party with my family, but this time we had a small intimate celebration with just some of Marcelo’s cousins.
‘Marcelinho had a lot of fun with his family. There were lots of games, music, popcorn, hot dogs, cakes, sweets, soft drinks and even souvenirs.’
Now all Meirivone wants is for her baby to come home.

She said: ‘Neighbors told us a person was here all morning with a red striped bag.
“Then my Marcelinho disappeared.
‘Marcelo believes they kidnapped him when he went to buy bread.
‘When he arrived there was no one else here at home and the door was open.
“I am very worried, we are desperate.”
Meirivone has asked anyone who knows of Marcelinho’s whereabouts to contact her or Marcelo through Instagram.
