She won an Oscar and a Bafta for her portrayal of Elizabeth II in the acclaimed 2006 film The Queen.

Now Helen Mirren appears to be taking style inspiration from the late Queen for her latest role in The Thursday Murder Club, Netflix’s upcoming adaptation of Richard Osman’s bestselling novel.

She wears a green headscarf and oversized glasses, similar to those she wore in The Queen 18 years ago, for the role of Elizabeth Best, a former spy and one of the drama’s four central characters.

Dame Helen, 79, also wears a khaki waistcoat similar to what the Queen would wear in the countryside, as well as walking with a cane.

She was seen filming scenes for the drama in Hertfordshire alongside co-star Celia Imrie, who stood out in a red knitted hat for her role as former nurse Joyce Meadowcroft.

The couple, who also appeared together in the hit film Calendar Girls, filmed scenes that involved them boarding a bus and visiting a local police station.

The plot revolves around a group of elderly friends who play at solving murders from their nursing home, only to find themselves with a real case on their hands.

It features a star-studded cast including Pierce Brosnan, Daniel Mays, David Tennant and Richard E. Grant.

Osman’s wife, Ingrid Oliver, will play Joyce’s daughter Joanna, although the author insists it was not his idea.

The former Pointless co-host’s debut novel, set at Coopers Chase Retirement Village in the fictional town of Fairhaven, Kent, was a successful release in 2020 and he has since written three further books in the series.
