Fans have been raving about U2 legend Adam Clayton’s ‘magical’ garden after he showed it off in a surprise appearance on Gardeners’ World yesterday.

The guitarist, 64, who has been with the rock band since their formation, toured their incredible garden for the show and noted that it had taken them 30 years to get to this stage.

It has a river that meanders through the land, with more than 4,000 planted trees and idyllic islands within the water, creating a serene space away from rock and roll.

The garden is filled with flowers, tall grass and a multitude of species, creating a natural and accidental look that fits perfectly with the wildlife that surrounds it in Dublin.

Other areas include a walled garden and a spot where hundreds of pink flowers bloom.

Adam Clayton said he has been gardening for about 30 years.

He said: “For me, the beginning was that I went to a boarding school at the age of 13 which is literally over the other field, and I used to look over the wall and come here in the early days of smoking and cigarettes and there was a lovely little river that ran through it.

“Moving forward, we’re looking for a place to film The Joshua Tree, and our management chose this house and I was like, ‘Oh my God, this is a stone’s throw from my boarding school, how strange to come back here.'”

‘At the end of the recording, the owner said: “Look, if anyone in the band wants to buy the house, I would be willing to deduct the cost of renting the house.”‘

So he did just that.

Since then, Clayton has planted more than 4,000 trees in the garden and worked to restore the river that runs through it.
