Helen Flanagan has revealed she feared her psychotic break would “ruin” her career, after suffering a mental health battle earlier this year.
speaking to MirrorThe former Coronation Street star, 33, has divulged details of her painful breakdown, which led to her pulling out of her return as an actress in a UK tour of murder mystery play Cluedo 2.
The star, who was replaced by Strictly and Corrie star Ellie Leach on the show, said: “I was heartbroken.” It was my dream job and I thought I had ruined my career. But I knew I had to deal with things so I would never go back to that place again.
However, he admitted that he needed some “healthy” time off, which “changed everything for the better” despite his initial concerns about his professional future.
In February, it was revealed that she was stepping down from her role as Miss Scarlett after being “advised to do so for medical reasons”, however she did not elaborate on the reason for her departure, sparking fear among fans.

Speaking to The Mirror, the former Coronation Street star, 33, divulged details of her painful breakdown, which led her to cancel her return as an actress in a UK tour of murder mystery play Cluedo 2.
The star, who was replaced by Strictly and Corrie star Ellie Leach on the show, said: “I was heartbroken.” It was my dream job and I thought I had ruined my career. But I knew I had to deal with things so I would never get to that place again.
On Instagram in March, she revealed that throughout January and February she was fighting a secret battle with her mental health following her split from Scott Sinclair.
Now Helen has admitted the extent of her problems, as she revealed to the publication that she was seeing things and felt like she was in danger all the time after having a reaction to her ADHD medication.
He confessed that it was difficult for him to face the separation: ‘I don’t see it as a breakup, I see it as a divorce. We were together 13 years. But instead of processing it all, I got to work and turned off my emotions.
‘I just went into survival mode. Then it all came to the surface earlier this year and I was falling apart mentally and physically.
He then began taking medication for his ADHD and suffered a bad reaction to his medication, as he explained: ‘It was really sad and very scary. I was seeing things and felt like I was in danger all the time.’
While her episode was within reach, Helen jetted off to Bali with her children Matilda, eight, Delilah, five, and Charlie, two, who she shares with her ex Scott.
Helen didn’t have her children for Christmas because they were with their father, so she decided to take them to the sunny destination for a special New Year’s Eve.
During the trip, she shared a slew of sweet snaps, with smiles hiding her hidden pain following her painful breakup from her ex and her new life as a single mother.

While she did not comment on their battle at the time, she suffered a psychotic break due to unresolved trauma surrounding their separation.
The couple ended their relationship in 2022 after spending 13 years together.
Helen’s children stayed with their parents while she sought help, as the mother made sure to put her family first.
Helen put herself and her mental health first and retired from Playing Miss Scarlett in the theatrical tour of Cluedo 2, as she was not well enough to leave her family and commit to the show.

Helen opened up about her psychosis for the first time in March after a break from social media, as she explained. She was “struggling emotionally” with her split from ex Scott Sinclair and the demands of being a working single mother.
She began: “Basically, I really struggled with my mental health in December/January,” Helen began her post. I didn’t really feel very good mentally over Christmas and I really didn’t feel much different when I took the kids away for the new year. I had a lot of difficult things that I just can’t talk about on Instagram.
She ended her post by stating that “I’ve always been honest here and I’m in a very happy place now.” Therapy can be amazing and I feel like I’ve worked on myself through things that were pretty hard for me, but now I feel lighter anyway. Sending you love and please be kind.’
As part of her healing and recovery, Helen has focused on exercise and tackling long overdue tasks, such as tidying up her home.
She is also in a better position to co-parent with Scott, as she said she previously had a hard time being alone at home, so she would go out drinking, but now she likes staying home and watching TV.

Helen also admitted that she and Scott even recently met on a dating app and were able to laugh about it.
However, although Helen has tried the app, she doesn’t push it, but insists she still believes in finding the one.
The star previously opened up about their co-parenting and described it as “pretty drama-free”, insisting they have been doing everything they can to make things easier for the children since their split.
She told The Sun: ‘I co-parent with Scott. We were together for a long time. He lives with his mother in Bristol and I live in Manchester with the children. I get along very well with Scott’s mom.
‘I was with Scott when I was between 19 and 31, which is why I get on so well with his mother. Honestly, it makes my life very easy because we go out together. It’s really nice. It’s pretty drama-free since I get along very well with her.
‘Children see their dad all the time, they see their grandmother a lot. We’re always in Birmingham a lot to meet the kids halfway.’
