Grace Tame has been captured on video getting angry at a photographer for taking her photo while dining at a trendy restaurant.

Former Australian of the Year. I was sitting outside the Gertrude & Alice Café bookstore in the Bondi, Sydney’s coastal suburb, on Thursday, when The professional paparazzi set up their cameras and started taking pictures.

An enraged Tame confronted the photographers and asked: ‘What are you doing? Why are you taking photos of me? I’m not working right now.

‘Do you understand that I am an advocate for survivors of child sexual abuse? I am not a media figure for no reason.

‘The point of what I do is to try to expose this kind of abuse of someone’s privacy and agency. You’re just recreating that dynamic.”

One of the photographers responded by saying, “You’re in a public place.” Do you know what public means?

Customers and staff who noticed the commotion intervened and demanded the photographers leave, which they refused.

“I didn’t choose to be in the public eye,” Tame continued.

‘I’m in a public place but are you taking photos of someone else here?

“This is not right, what you are doing.”

The activist then declared: “I’m going to call the police” and reported the encounter by phone.

Tame later took to Instagram to vent about the heated exchange.

‘Again. Absolute bastards, taking photos of me and my colleague without our permission,” he wrote.

‘I’m an advocate for abuse survivors, not a pop star. Show some decency and respect. If not for me, then for yourselves.

‘Just because I’m in a public place doesn’t mean you have a right to a part of me or anyone else. I reported you and your partner to the police.

‘After repeated requests from myself, other cafe customers and the owner of the establishment, both ‘men’ refused to leave. Instead, they continued filming.

“I’m sure they are delighted with the images of me they captured while I justifiably gave them punishment for their abhorrent actions, but I am not ashamed of my anger. The shame is theirs alone.”

However, some online believed that the photographers had the right to film Tame.

“She’s in a public place, complaining that she’s being photographed,” one of them said.

Another wrote: ‘The police won’t do anything. It is perfectly legal to film in public.
