Thousands of Australians are divided over the cost of a meat and potato pie.
A conversation was started on Reddit after a customer shared a picture of the freshly baked golden pastries behind the glass window priced at $10.90.
The price quickly angered dozens with some labeling it “un-Australian” while others understood that prices had increased due to inflation.
The cost had customers thinking about how much they would be willing to spend on the popular bakery item.
“Meatloaf inflation,” the caption read.
‘I don’t doubt that cakes are more expensive for a good reason. But I won’t pay ten dollars for one,” one admitted.
‘Yeah. Fuck off. “I go into that bakery, look, I come out,” wrote another.
“$10.90 for a pie is a scam,” wrote a third.

‘As everything gets more expensive, most people don’t earn more. So yeah, an $11 pie is crazy,” someone else added.
However, considering that ingredient prices have also increased due to inflation, some understood why the price is higher than usual.
‘I mean servo cakes are now between $5 and $6, so $10 for a proper artisan cake makes a lot of sense to me. That doesn’t mean I like it, but I get it,” one said.
A baker also joined the conversation and shared his view of the situation.
‘Unfortunately, ingredient prices are rising as fast as gasoline/groceries. “I’ve placed my orders for the week and things like butter, yeast, flour, cheese and especially meat seem to increase each week,” the baker said.
The high price made customers think about how much they would be willing to spend on the popular bakery item.
“However, if you swap out too many ingredients for cheaper alternatives, people start to complain, and if you don’t, they’ll complain that it’s too expensive.” There’s not much you can do,” the baker continued.
“Thankfully, my bakery is selling enough that we’re still priced at around $6 per pie, but I definitely don’t hold it against other bakeries charging that much.”
The baker added that it is expensive to run a business and if customers are not willing to pay, they may have to consider cheaper options.
Another commented how strange it is to think $6 is “cheap” now.
“Two years ago I was outraged that pies cost $6; $3.50 to $4.50 always seemed about right,” the person wrote.
