Mescal recently joked that his character Connell’s silver chain will be “ always more popular ” than him.
He spoke to Nick Grimshaw on the BBC Radio 1 show where he discussed all things about the Sally Rooney novel adapted drama.
Talking about Connell’s silver chain and the fan page dedicated to it on Instagram, Paul quipped, ‘It’s kind of terrifying. I’d be a little embarrassed if the chain account took over my number of followers.

“But it will probably happen at some point, so I better reconcile that the chain will always be more popular than me.
“It was a few days after the show aired, I saw as if a little page started somewhere and now it’s like this beast growing legs. I just think it’s so funny because … it’s a chain. ‘
Mescal went on to admit that he was wearing chains for the BBC show himself and never got the attention Connell has.
He continued, “I’m not going to abuse anyone who thinks necklaces are sexy, but I used to wear necklaces and chains and I definitely didn’t get the attention this necklace gets.
“So hopefully we do a good thing for chains around the world and we’ll see that they get the right respect they deserve. We slept on chains for far too long. ‘
Mescal revealed this week that he is single and looking for love, telling the I’m Grand Mam podcast that he wanted to date after the block was lifted.
However, he warned, “If anyone ever makes an appointment with me, I’m not Connell and I don’t want to be.”

Paul said, “My grandmother warned my great-aunt that there were a lot of sexy bits and that when she felt they were about to happen, she should go out and do something else …
“In episode two when we started kissing, she took the dog …
“But she underestimated the time it would take and when she came back in, we were in the middle of it … I suggested a good long job or a few cups of tea would work next time!”

In addition to the sexy scenes, the duo discussed the fact that the show has just reached 30 million viewers, as Daisy said: ‘It’s hard to believe people like it when we’re in our bedrooms. It is unreal. ‘
Paul continued, “That’s not even a number I can calculate. It sounds very good and brilliant, but it is not something expected of us. After good news, it was just good news. It’s crazy! ”
The 12-part drama is based on Sally Rooney’s bestselling novel about the turbulent relationship between working class Connell [Mescal] and wealthy Marianne [Edgar-Jones], it has been praised for its unshakable view of sexuality.
