The heartbroken family and friends of an NHS worker who died suddenly at home have paid tribute to her, calling her a ‘one in a million’ girl who would help anyone.

Amber Sugden, 24, died on February 27 at her home in Normanby, Teesside. She had worked as a medical secretary at St James Cook University Hospital in Middlesbrough for four years.

Beloved by patients and staff alike, Amber even won an award for helping families during the covid pandemic.

Her death devastated the community, with friends describing the popular 24-year-old as “the life and soul of the party.”

Paying tribute to her, Amber’s heartbroken mother Jo Thompson, of Middlesbrough, said: “She was incredible, a beautiful girl inside and out.”

‘She worked hard and loved to party. We are in shock and can’t believe she is gone.

‘She was naturally beautiful and had everything on point. She was the complete package, she always had her nails and hair done and she was very smart: an A grade student. She really was amazing.

‘Many people have contacted her, from her former employers to her schoolteachers. Everyone lucky enough to have known her has contacted us, which is heartwarming.

‘She was the nicest girl, she would go out of her way to help anyone. She was absolutely selfless and she never wanted anything in return, she just wanted to help people.”

Jo and Amber’s father, Matty Sugden, described the 24-year-old as a “girly girl” who always loved to look her best.

amber attended Linthorpe Community Primary School, Outwood Academy Acklam and Trinity Catholic College.

Tributes have poured in on social media after Amber’s death.

A friend wrote: ‘RIP dude I can’t believe I’m writing this about you Amber. The loud, confident and bubbly you could always hear first before you see!

A smile never left your face and you were always the light and soul of the party. I will never forget the laughs we had.

Another added: “The loudest soul in the room who everyone loved and held in their hearts – you truly were one in a million.”

A balloon drop was held to celebrate Amber last weekend, with her family and friends turning out to pay tribute.

Her mother added: “It was colourful, bright, it was everything she was.”

A celebration of Amber’s life will take place on Friday 17 March at 10:30am in St. Bede’s Chapel, Acklam.

Their loved ones will then gather at Linthorpe Cemetery, Middlesbrough, at 11:45am to say a final farewell.

The cause of his death has not been revealed.
