Police have released the names of twin boys who tragically died after their father pulled their lifeless bodies from their backyard pool in Arizona.
The three-year-old girls, Valentina and Peñalapi Ruiz, died at the hospital Thursday, authorities said.
“Preliminary information suggests this incident is consistent with an accidental drowning,” Phoenix police said in a statement Friday. “At this time, investigators have not found anything that appears suspicious.”
Police on Friday identified the two young children who drowned in their family’s backyard pool in Phoenix, Arizona. Valentina and Peñalapi Ruiz, 3 years old, were rushed to a hospital where they were pronounced dead.
Fire department officials said the twin’s father called 911.
Phoenix Fire Capt. Rob McDade said the twin’s father was the one who called 911.
McDade added that the young children were underwater for an “undetermined period of time” before help arrived.
It took less than three minutes for first responders to reach the home at 63rd Avenue and Lower Buckeye Road and find family members administering CPR to the twins.
The girls were rushed to a nearby hospital where they were pronounced dead, authorities said.
Phoenix Fire Capt. Rob McDade said it was “a tragic scene” when family members attempted to perform CPR on the children when first responders arrived at the home.
Phoenix police said the tragic incident is consistent with an accidental drowning.
The backyard pool had no fences around it.
Aerial shots of the three-bedroom home showed a kidney-shaped pool that had no fences around it.
“You can imagine what that would be like, how exhausting it would be,” McDade told CBS 5 News. “A tremendous tragic scene.”
