Manchester United fans have begged Antony to deliver on his promise to Erik ten Hag, while the Red Devils are reportedly tightening a £40 million bid for the Brazilian.

On his departure to Old Trafford in May, Ajax Ten Hag handed over a farewell video on social media, in which players from the past and present wish him the best for the future.

Antony vowed to “stand” his former manager in the video, and now Red Devils fans are begging him to stay true to his word.

Manchester United officials flew to Amsterdam on Monday in a bid to finalize the Antony deal, according to the Sun

The Red Devils’ leaders will have to knock out competition from Spurs’ six biggest rivals, who are reportedly also showing interest in the Brazil international.

Fans expected the squad to undergo an overhaul this summer in support of their new boss, but no incoming deals have been signed at Old Trafford yet.

A handful of supporters begged Antony via social media to keep his vow, in the hopes that he would become the first new signing of the Ten Hag era.

Several fans told the winger that the Dutch manager ‘needs you now’ in response to his farewell statement, while one said the ‘foreshadowing’ of Antony’s message gave them ‘goosebumps’.

While Manchester United have struggled to get into gear, many of their competitors have had very busy transfer windows.

Liverpool signed Darwin Nunez for a club-record £85 million, Manchester City signed Erling Haaland for a £51 million deal and Spurs spent £25 million on Brighton’s Yves Bissouma.

Rival supporters reacted to the despair of Manchester United fans as they read the Brazilian’s farewell message to Ten Hag.

The Dutch head coach brought Antony from Sao Paulo to Ajax in 2020 for an initial fee of £13 million, before developing him into a star at the club.

He scored 12 goals and 10 assists in all competitions in the past campaign, leading Ajax to its third Eredivisie title in four years.

His teammate Jurrien Timber and former Ajax star Frenkie de Jong have also been linked with a move to Old Trafford, but negotiations appear to have stalled in recent weeks.
