Review: Victims of HBOS scandal have had to wait more than seven years for a verdict

Angry victims of the HBOS Reading scandal last night demanded a speedier verdict in the seven-year review of the affair.

A lawyer for dozens of people at the centre of the corporate fraud fiasco warned that clients had “waited long enough” and many are now “elderly and frail”.

In early 2017, six people, two of them former HBOS employees, were convicted of criminal misconduct between 2003 and 2007.

The nearly £250m loan scam dragged around 200 innocent businessmen into serious financial difficulties. Total losses are estimated to be in excess of £1bn.

But victims are still awaiting the findings of an independent review, also set up in 2017 and chaired by former High Court judge Dame Linda Dobbs.

Victim Paul Turner, whose wife Nikki suffered a stress-related stroke, demanded an interim report from Dobbs’ review be released immediately.

“There’s no point in this taking so long. It would be nice to get on with my life,” she told the Mail.
