Hayden Panettiere put on a brave face as she stepped out in her second outfit of the day in New York on Tuesday, after once again sparking fears for her health.
The actress, 35, wore a cream blouse and matching trousers with a grey striped blazer as she continued promoting her new film Amber Alert, after an appearance on Today With Hoda & Jenna left fans worried for her.
She wore her blonde locks up in a sleek updo and sported bright pink lipstick and mascara for the occasion.
Hayden appeared to be downplaying fans’ claims that she was “slurring her words” and appeared to have a “speech delay” in her latest interview.
The appearance came a day after she shared a statement in response to concerns about her recent interview with People magazine.
Hayden Panettiere put on a brave face as she stepped out in her second outfit of the day in New York on Tuesday, after again sparking fears for her health.
The actress took to Instagram to speak out about her “difficulty speaking” after a video of her opening up about grieving the loss of her younger brother went viral. Hayden claimed the publication had decided not to use footage filmed at the beginning of the interview and appeared to blame the editing process.
However, her live appearance on Today sparked similar comments online after the blonde star opened up to Hoda, 60, and Jenna, 42, about her mental health and the way her body has reacted to grief following the death of her brother in February 2023.
On X, formerly known as Twitter, one person posted: “It was so hard watching Hayden Panettiere on @HodaAndJenna. What happened to her? Her eyes are rolling back in her head and her speech seems very delayed.”
Another user replied: “I was thinking the same thing. I feel sick,” while a third person said: “He seems to be under the influence of some substance.”
Someone else commented: ‘I didn’t mean to be rude because I don’t know what she’s going through but she seems to be under the influence of some substance in that interview.’
“He had slurred speech and at times his eyes remained closed for too long. I hope he is okay,” they added.
In a lengthy caption posted Sunday, which accompanied a photo of herself standing in front of a floor-to-ceiling screen with her name emblazoned across the front, she said the controversy was “unfathomable” and that she felt “compelled to address” how she speaks.
The Nashville star explained that she was “exhausted” and hadn’t slept in several days due to an emergency with her pet.

Hayden raised fears with his “slurred speech” and “rolling eyes” on Tuesday
A viewer came to X and shared their concern, claiming that Hayden’s speech was “delayed.”
More viewers agreed, with one person saying he appeared to slur his words during the interview.
Hayden stepped out on the Today Show wearing a sleek grey blazer and high-waisted black pants.
She also noted that grief presents itself differently for each individual, adding that it was “nobody’s business” whether or not she was taking any medication while processing her loss.
“I would like to take a moment to address the controversy surrounding an interview I recently completed with People Magazine,” she wrote, referring to the aforementioned controversial interview.
“It’s unimaginable that I would be in this position, but I feel compelled to address it in a space where I won’t be criticized for how fast or slow I speak,” she said.
“I hadn’t slept for two days before the shoot because one of my dogs was recovering from emergency surgery,” she continued.
“It was an eight-hour shoot followed by an on-camera interview that was supposed to last an hour,” he explained.
“The interview started off well, and for the record, the beginning is not included in the version published by PEOPLE,” she added. “I was exhausted.”
Panettiere continued: ‘My manager stopped the interview early because it became apparent that I was fading away, especially as the subject matter became heavier.’
He recalled that he was asked to continue the interview at another time, but was assured that “it would be a beautiful piece.”
“We asked the interviewer if we could repeat the interview another day or do a follow-up interview via Zoom,” she said. “She assured us that it wasn’t necessary and that she felt it had been an emotional and heartfelt interview.”
He added: “They also told us that they would edit it and that it would be a beautiful piece.
‘The magazine does not approve images or video interviews before publication. We see the interview when it is published.’
She then attributed the “slurred speech” people were noticing as a symptom of her pain.
“Grief manifests itself differently for each person,” she said. “It’s nobody’s business whether I’m on medication or not, it’s something that’s between me and my doctor.”
She explained that the “real problem here” is how she was misrepresented and mischaracterized online.
“I’m doing interviews to promote my new movie because I’m proud of it. The real problem here is the toxicity of social media and a clickbait-driven news cycle,” she wrote.

‘Mental health is very important and I hope that those who read this now understand that what one says hidden behind a computer screen can have a detrimental impact on someone.’
She concluded her message with a note of thanks to her fans who defended her.
“To those of you who have come to my defense in the midst of this chaos, I am so grateful. As I said before, I am a work in progress. We all are. — Hayden.”
