A 17-year-old boy drowned after jumping from a bridge into a stream in an Easter weekend tragedy.
The teenager briefly resurfaced after jumping from the Cudgera Creek bridge on Tweed Coast Road, Hastings Point, before disappearing underwater.
Emergency crews arrived at the scene shortly before 4:30 p.m. on Saturday and were able to remove the body from the water.
Despite the efforts of paramedics, the 17-year-old died at the scene.

A rescue helicopter was sent to assist in the search for the teenager’s body (pictured).
Police are understood to be treating the death as a tragic case of misfortune.
“Officers attached to the Tweed Byron Police District arrived to find the body of a 17-year-old boy in the water,” New South Wales Police said in a statement.
“A report will be prepared for the coroner’s information.”
It is understood that the tide was going out and the water was shallow, 9News reports.
A rescue helicopter was dispatched to assist in the search for the teen’s body.
