Harry Hill’s medical background continues to haunt him as Lorraine Kelly shares a photo of the comedian as a fresh-faced doctor before quitting to pursue a stand-up career
Harry Hill was reminded of his former life as a trainee doctor on Wednesday morning when he appeared in the latest issue of Lorraine.
The popular comedian, real name Matthew Hall, trained as a doctor at the University of London before receiving his Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) degree in 1988.
And he was confronted with an old photo from his brief career in the medical field — which he left in the early ’90s to pursue his stand-up career — during an early morning conversation with Lorraine Kelly.

Seeing the picture of himself with a stethoscope on a big screen, the 57-year-old comedian explained: ‘I did a locum at Southampton hospital, surgery there, and drove to London to run a comedy shop there.
“The gig was on a Sunday night at a Mexican restaurant in south Norwood. The third gig I did there was complete silence, people just stared at you.
“I tried to climb out the window, but I had to walk through it” [the audience].’
