A Benedictine College graduate posted her response to Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker’s controversial speech on TikTok, saying it was “fucking horrible.”
Fresh from receiving her diploma, Susannah Leisegang offered her firsthand account of being in the crowd at Butker’s misogynistic commencement speech last Saturday in Atchison, Kansas.
‘Alright… Well, since I have about two hundred of you congratulating me and wondering what the fuck I was thinking during the speech, I thought I’d respond… uhm, yes, it was. Fucking horrible,” she said at first. ‘Some of us booed. My roommate and I definitely did. There was a standing ovation from everyone present in the room. Except me, my roommate and about 10 or 15 other women.
‘You also have to keep in mind that this was at a conservative, Catholic university. So a lot of the men were like, “Fuck yeah.” They were excited.
But it was horrible. Most of the women were looking at each other like, “what the fuck is going on?” Did you just get here? Talk about politics and your view on women? That’s all you have for graduation, the commencement speech. Are you kidding?”’
Benedictine College graduate Susannah Leisegang gave her account of Harrison Butker’s speech on TikTok on Wednesday, describing the contrast in reaction between men and women.
Butker has faced backlash for telling some of the women graduates that they should be more excited about becoming stay-at-home wives rather than forging their own careers.
Leisegang, who has 1,406 followers on TikTok, added that he already has a job lined up at a “national magazine company, doing layout and photography.” He enters the workforce with a degree in graphic design.
“So yeah, I’m excited about what my career brings me…” said the Colorado-based influencer. ‘And no, I’m not a damn housewife…
‘Besides, I’m 21 years old. Question mark. “Getting married and having kids is not my ideal situation right now,” he noted later, adding that Butker’s speech “was definitely horrible” before stating that it “definitely made graduation feel a little bad.” less special, knowing that I had to endure that and being told that I am nothing more than a housewife.
But thank you all for congratulating me. It means a lot. I cried a little reading all your comments, but yeah, I love you all.’
On May 11, Butker, 28, told Benedictine College graduates that women should not be in the workplace, and also called Pride Month a mortal sin.
He also urged male students to “make no apologies” for their masculinity and criticized US President Joe Biden for being a pro-choice Catholic. Ironically, Harrison, who obviously respects conservative ideologies, was raised by an accomplished and decorated physicist.
The NFL has distanced itself from Butker’s views. He has been a part of the Chiefs since 2017.
On Thursday, former California first lady Maria Shriver, who is also the ex-wife of Arnold Schwarzenegger, and other celebrities criticized Butker for his comments.
The LA Chargers also trolled the three-time Super Bowl champion following the announcement of their schedule for the 2024 NFL season.
Kansas City’s X count also weighed on the comments of its kicker, as well as the NFL.
