A senior campaign adviser to Vice President Kamala Harris deleted his X account after apparently attacking President Joe Biden.
David Plouffe, who previously managed Barack Obama’s successful run for the White House, thanked members of Harris’ campaign for their work and said they “left it all on the field” in a message Wednesday night.
He then concluded the message by saying, “We dug a deep hole, but not deep enough,” calling it a “devastating loss.”
Many online took the message as a dig at the president, whom some Democrats now blame for Harris’ loss, arguing that she should not have sought a second term and instead should have dropped out of the race.
An unnamed source said to be close to the president even went so far as to label Plouffe a “prudish imbecile.” to Fox News and described his position as “unproductive.”
David Plouffe, a senior campaign advisor to Vice President Kamala Harris, deleted his X account on Thursday morning.
It came amid backlash to a post in which he appeared to criticize President Joe Biden, writing: “We dug a deep hole, but not deep enough.”
The source added that ‘Joe Biden is the president of the United States and he won without (Plouffe). “He successfully defeated Donald Trump, something (Plouffe) never did.”
Amid the backlash, the senior advisor deleted his X account as of 10 a.m. Thursday. according to The Hill.
He had previously insisted that the presidential race was closer than the polls seemed, calling them “horses***.”
‘I can’t speak to public polls. “I spend very little time looking at them…most of them are horses***,” Plouffe told Pod Save America last month.
“Some of them may be close, but overall, I would say any poll that shows Kamala Harris up four to five points in one of these seven states, ignore it,” he said, referring to critical battleground states.
“Any point that shows Donald Trump like this, ignore it.”
But Trump ended up winning the election by a landslide, and his margin of support even improved in most of the states that turned blue.
Donald Trump won a resounding victory in Tuesday’s election, improving his support from 2020 to now in all but one state.
As Democrats now struggle to understand how they could have lost, some media analysts have suggested that Biden should have canceled his candidacy long before his disastrous debate performance.
They argued that this would have given Harris more time to establish herself or allowed for an open primary to select a stronger candidate.
Among those who subscribed to that view was NBC Meet the Press moderator Kristen Welker, who said during the network’s election night coverage that Biden’s moment would be “something that, if, in fact, loses, he will be under a microscope.
“Because, of course, there was a lot of discussion, even over the summer, about the possibility of having an open primary and having that fight play out within the Democratic Party,” he said.
“So I think that’s one of the big questions going forward.”
Some media analysts have suggested that Biden should never have sought a second term and instead should have withdrawn from the race.
However, those closest to Biden have pointed the finger at former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.
They hold her responsible for kicking Biden out of the race, where they say he should have stayed.
‘Bidenworld’ sources have also argued that if he had stayed in the race, he would have won over white working-class voters who largely voted for Trump.
