Happy Pancake Day! David Beckham wakes up daughter Harper, 12, with the sweet treat while ‘perfect tosser’ Gordon Ramsay shows his skills and Kelly Brook causes chaos in the kitchen to celebrate Shrove Tuesday

Tuesday morning got off to a good start for celebrities as they dusted off their colanders and pans for Pancake Day.

Taking to Instagram to show off their creations, the proud stars showed off their best efforts in honor of Shrove Tuesday.

David Beckham, 48, was delighted at the return of the annual celebration and woke up his daughter Harper, 12, with a sweet treat after slaving away in the kitchen.

He filmed himself holding his offering as he headed to Harper’s room, singing: “Harper Seven, it’s pancake day, wake up, wake up…”

As the tween looked unimpressed and tried to go back to sleep, David kept and set down the plate of crepes next to her before shouting, ‘I love you!’

Celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay was quick to offer a recipe to his followers and shared a video demonstrating his technique.

At the Heart Radio studios, Kelly Brook and JK caused chaos by turning the studio into a mini kitchen, playing with pancake ingredients, including whipped cream.

David captioned the post: ‘I love, love, love pancake day. Maybe more than my children. Dads a little early and maybe a little excited, fancy a pancake mom?

He couldn’t resist making a cheeky joke in the video, as he reflected: “I’ve been called a lot of things in my career, but one thing I maintain is that I’m the perfect pitcher… because I’m great.” Let’s throw pancakes!’

Pancake Day, or Shrove Tuesday, is celebrated in the United Kingdom, Ireland and parts of the Commonwealth on a Tuesday in February or March by gorging on pancakes before the 40 days of Lent.

Always before Ash Wednesday, Pancake Day falls 47 days before Easter and many take to the streets to participate in pancake races.

In other countries, the day is celebrated with a carnival and is known as Mardi Gras, or “Fat Tuesday,” the last night of eating fatty foods before the fasting period of Lent begins.

The phrase “Shrove Tuesday” is derived from the word “confess” which means “to absolve” and Christians consider any mistakes to be repented of on this day.

Pancakes are eaten as a meal because it was a good way to consume rich, fatty foods like eggs, milk, and sugar before the 40 days of Lent.

During Lent, many Christians abstain from eating foods that give them pleasure, such as meat, dairy products, or eggs.

As well as eating pancakes, the UK has a rich history of celebrating the day in weird and wonderful ways.

In the 17th century, many English cities held massive football matches on Shrove Tuesdays, but the tradition disappeared 200 years later, when playing football on public roads was banned.

Lucy Watson made American-style vegan blueberry and chocolate chip pancakes (left), while chef Nigella Lawson followed with a classic recipe.

Pancake Day was also once a “half holiday” and pancake races would take place and still occur in cities and towns across the UK.

The tradition began in Olney, Buckinghamshire, when a housewife, while preparing pancakes, lost track of time and ran to the church still carrying her frying pan and throwing it to prevent it from burning.

In London, teams from the House of Commons, the House of Lords and the Fourth Estate compete in the Parliamentary Rehabilitation Pancake Race.

This relay race raises awareness for Rehab, a charity providing education, employment, health and social care to disabled and marginalized people.
