Also dressed to impress was Paloma Faith, who radiated glamor in a scarlet dress with puffed sleeves and intricate embroidery details.

Sticking with an all-red theme, the singer even donned scarlet tights and accessorized with slingback heels and gloves.

Strictly’s Amy Dowden also looked stylish dressed all in red, pairing a tight jumpsuit with a long coat and stilettos.

This time last year, Kate, 42, was focused on her job and her children, looking forward to the holiday season with little anticipation of what was to come.

Weeks later, he underwent major abdominal surgery in hospital, after which doctors broke the news that they had found evidence of cancer and advised him to undergo grueling preventive chemotherapy treatment.

Kate and her husband, Prince William, found their lives turned upside down.

Now, having completed their treatment, the royals are beginning to return to their public duties and will hold their fourth ‘Together At Christmas’ carol service at historic Westminster Abbey, which will be televised on ITV on Christmas Eve.

The princess, who was “hands on” in all aspects of the service and held regular planning meetings in Windsor, arrived alone at 4pm to visit the abbey and oversee last-minute arrangements.

Kate put on a stylish display in a red Alexander McQueen coat, with a statement black bow, which she paired with her black Ralph Lauren boots for the occasion.

Just before the event begins, she will be joined by her three children (Prince George, 11, Princess Charlotte, nine, and Prince Louis, six), as well as her husband, the Prince of Wales, who will read the first lesson.

The 1,600-strong congregation is largely made up of members of the public recommended by Lord Lieutenants across the country for their community and charity work as a “thank you” from the Princess.

Also among them are members of the Southport community affected by this summer’s tragic stabbing, including the children who survived the attack and the families of the three girls who died.

Sources have told the Mail that the theme of empathetic service and the importance of support from others in the most difficult times of our lives has understandably been inspired by the princess’s own experiences this year.

But he also wanted to highlight other people who are also going through equally difficult experiences.

With the support of her Royal Foundation, Kate has decided to “celebrate the many people who support those in need: people who have inspired, counseled and comforted and, above all, shown that love is the greatest gift we can receive.”

The event will be broadcast as part of Royal Carols: Together At Christmas, a special program airing on ITV1 and ITVX on Christmas Eve.

The broadcast will include three special films that bring to life the stories of people and organizations who have inspired, counseled and comforted others in times of need.

In addition to the service at Westminster Abbey, fifteen community carol services will be held across the UK throughout December to provide a time for people to come together and celebrate community work over the festive season.

Organized by Lord Lieutenants and supported by The Royal Foundation, these events will be tailored to their local communities while also including elements of the Westminster Abbey service, including the special letter from the Princess of Wales.
