We got there! Christmas has been skipped or staggered and the New Year is in sight. I hope you’ve had time to rest and unwind a little, recharge and recharge. Now we are going to do a little remodeling.
When I say I’m writing about New Year’s resolutions, I’m not suggesting there’s an inappropriate 2024 to reform for 2025. We’re adults and we’re fine.
However, January 1st does provide a useful focusing device for reassessing the things we do and tweaking them around the edges. And our beauty rituals are no exception.
These are the five things I will be doing over the next few days and you might want to do them too.
Relax
The biggest gift I gave myself this Christmas were those earplugs that you see young people use to block out an increasingly demanding world.
Mi Loop Switch 2s (£54.95, loopearplugs.com) can be switched between “silence” (peace), “experience” (decreasing the concert volume) and “participation” (lowering people’s voices) modes. Now I long for a Loop Dream set (£44.95) to have next to my bed. I’ll still hear my alarm, but not those morning jets that have been waking me up with a stressed jolt.
I’ll slather myself on Nikura Sleep essential oil blend (£5.99, nikura.com) and use them with my Drowsy Silk sleep mask (from £52, drowsysleepco.com) for the ultimate restful sleep.

Think
Use this interlude to reflect, read and observe. Magazines will provide a lot of ideas, even just advertising appearances.
While I highly recommend Lisa Eldridge’s YouTube videos, you might be drawn to a novel in which the heroine has a signature beauty gesture or a friend’s party look for tomorrow night.
Maybe you would like to reach 2025 with a new hair color or foundation technique? Now is the time to fantasize.
Look
I was talking to a great British beauty the other day and she told me that what she wants in a makeup artist isn’t playing with different tricks, but someone who will take a good look at her face and then act on those findings. . Do the same. Is your mirror prepared for the view of middle age? I use the excellent 10X/1X magnification double-sided Mirrorvana (£25, amazon.es).
Restock
Go through your cosmetics kit and remove anything that doesn’t work, like old makeup and bald brushes. Then clean up any remaining pests. Wash, disinfect and/or replace your cosmetic bag as well.
Renew your cleanser, use bottles of old cream and optimize your kit for spring.
It’s going to be cold; make sure your face is prepared for this. And apply some nourishment to your hands and hair too.

You may want to invest in silk pillowcases to make them gentle on your skin and hair. (I Trust Bedsure Satin Pillowcases for Eyeliner Proof Black Hair and Skin, £5.04 for two, amazon.es).
You may want to commit to a beauty supplement or long to whiten your smile (me too, watch this space).
I will be turning 54 in March which means the pigmentation is starting to appear so I will be looking into remedies.
I also intend to enhance my features with my hands using the Deciniee Gua Sha Massagers (£12.89 for two, amazon.es) and the brilliant Mini Eye Cool Rollers (£4.99 each, amazon.es), which are exquisitely calming.
You may decide not to let your lips crack before reaching for the balm, or you may conclude, “The smell makes me feel alive.” I will use it every day. Small change, beautiful New Year.
See you in 2025.

Removing a party face in the wee hours of the morning is an arduous task. what is needed is
Olixa Gummy Facial Cleanser (£28.50, olixabeauty.com), the bestseller from this natural skincare brand.
Plant-based ingredients create an antioxidant-rich formula designed to refine tone, boost hydration, and brighten the complexion.
What stands out, however, is the texture: the xanthan gum provides a glue-like grip. Apply a tablespoon to dry skin, pressing and lifting to create suction.
